Competition Report

Club de Golf El Paraiso (Rojales) LV39 @ La Manga (South course) 19/2/16

The weather forecast earlier in the week looked rather unpalatable for our visit to La Manga today, this put off 5 or 6 members from making the hour long trip south to play this challenging Championship course. In fact we didn’t have a single spot of rain but we did have strong cold winds and this did reflect on the scores. While taking a coffee in the club house and preparing ourselves to do battle against the elements (and the course) the general opinion was that 30 Stableford points under these conditions would be enough to win. In fact it was the 31 points of Norwegian member Kai Krog that took 1st place, close behind just a point further back was Danish member Benedicte Kruse, back on 26 points to secure 3rd place was Norwegian lady Gunn Handeland. Our “2’s” competition didn’t produce a winner so the €19 in the pot will be carried over to our visit to Alicante Golf on the 4th March. The N.T.P.’s this week were not at all easy in fact no one managed to keep the ball on the 2nd green. Hole 5; Benedicte Kruse was the nearest and on Hole 12 was the only Brit who won a prize, well done Ken Havey, the long par 3 17th was won by German member Gerd Cromm.  There were 3 bottles of Rioja left over for the card draw, but before it commenced Irishman Mike O’Regan said that he could take care of them for us, just the luck of the Irish because his card was the 1st to be drawn. The other winners were, Hermis Woerdemann and the normally inform Sverre Sonesen. Today’s score will be added into the summer competition where the best 5 cards from 12 will be taken to produce a winner, well maybe not all of today’s will need to be counted! The winner of the summer competition will receive 2 rounds of golf (including buggy) menu del dia on both days, B/B at a local hotel and all of this for 2 people. Where? At the fantastic Club de Golf Las Pinaillas (Albacete) Our next competition is at the challenging course, Alicante Golf on the 4th March.
